This work was created when I was doing a residency at Cemeti Art House in 2015. During the three-month residency, I created two works related to interpersonal concepts. This is not without reason, I tried to reflect back on the art ecosystem in Yogyakarta where I work and live. Yogyakarta as a cultural city has a very active ecosystem, including in the contemporary art world. This broad art ecosystem, there are several circles of communities or institutions that are close together or that are far away or not connected. I then had the idea to cross these boundaries, by intervening with exhibition visitors. This intervention was in the form of pairing up exhibition viewers who were not so close, or even did not know each other, by putting a leather strap on their hands. Participants were asked to actively tell their experiences watching the exhibition to their partners at that time, and then after finishing watching the exhibition they wrote their impressions and experiences on the leather strap they used.
The intervention of the exhibition audience was carried out in three different places, at the opening of the exhibition at Kedai Kebun Forum, the opening of the exhibition at Kebun Bibi and the last one was carried out at the opening of the exhibition at Cemeti Art House. In the middle of the Cemeti gallery there is a concrete foundation, which has a hard and cold impression. I then changed the hard impression by covering it with dacron material, so that it changed into a soft and supple impression. The leather ropes that had been collected were then displayed at the bottom, resembling tied hands coming out from behind the pole.
