Family Series

This work is a personal story about family, represented by both parents, namely father and mother. In 2007, my father, who worked as a commercial photographer for approximately 30 years, was forced to change professions or close his photo studio because of the digital era that began to spread at that time. The used items from the photo studio were then only stored and abandoned in the warehouse. Then I took the initiative to reconstruct the situation as if the studio was back, but with the position of the used items there. 30 years of being a photographer has made our family have a lot of documentary photos, which are then stored in photo albums. I want to describe how the audience can enter the photo by emptying the chair next to where my father is sitting. Listening to personal stories of our family, from documentary photos. Now my father works as a fish and aquarium seller. Here I describe my father as an entrepreneur who is netting his consumers, with the situation in which he is currently working. My mother’s family believes in Confucianism, and my mother is a Christian. Every year we still celebrate Chinese New Year together, and pray for our ancestors. Here I see how religion and tradition go hand in hand. Once a year, our extended family from my mother gathers at my grandmother’s house in Magelang, Central Java. Because we rarely meet, the things that always become the topic of conversation are about plants and food. I conclude that plants and food are tools to strengthen our brotherhood from year to year.
